What motivates you? What motivates anyone to set out on any journey?
Motivation is the will power that forces you to achieve in life. If you have goals you want to obtain, then you must have the motivation to drive toward those goals. For without the motivation, goals will never be met. Therefore, you must find what motivates you or who motivates you?
I am motivated to go to my current job because of financial reasons, so my family can live in a nice home, do things they enjoy and be able to be a productive member of society. As an athletic coach I have goals for my teams and individuals on each team I coach. Sometimes my goals are more than what the team and the individuals have set for themselves but as a coach I do everything in my power to achieve the set goals throughout the athletic season.
Motivation is the desire to accomplish a specific goal. This can be for basic needs such as food and shelter or career goals such as pursuing a promotion. An example of motivation for myself would be not allowing my running partner to beat me in a race this year. I am motivated to work hard at all the practice sessions I have with the team I coach.
As a coach, I have to know how to motivate each one of my athletes. That can be challenging at the middle and high school levels. Once I know what each athlete is wanting to achieve during the season I give daily encouragement and let each one know that I am there to help them achieve what they have set out to do. This is the first step in motivating them.
Some I motivate with extra work, others I give a “kudos” note to when they have done great work toward achieving their goals, while others may need a food prize at the end of the season to be motivated to achieve their goals throughout the season.
In closing you have to know what you want and you must be motivated to achieve what that is no matter what obstacles may be in the way. Until next time, stay motivated to achieve what you want.
